Know any Iranians? Ask them if they prefer the Shah over the Islamist clerics. I'm an engineer and work in high tech. I've met lots of Iranians in college and professionally. I've seen lots of support for the Shah and exactly zero for the Islamist regime.
The Shah of Iran was demonstrably better than the theocratic regime. He is surely guilty of imprisoning and torturing his opponents, but it sounds like his opponents were Islamists and communists. To modernize Iran, those groups had to be put down. Mosaddeq was a socialist nationalist who stole the property of others. So he was justly removed. The world needs less oil under government control, not more. But this isn't about Mosaddeq. And remember the Cold War context. Anything that smelled of Marxism had to be opposed. The Arabs in the so-called "occupied territories" repeatedly attack and refuse Israel's simple demand for peace and security. They have elected terrorists and theocrats. They teach their children to murder Jews. In aggregate, they are among the most despicable and undeserving people on the planet. In contrast, Israelis -- both Jews and Arabs -- are among the most free, industrious, and prosperous people on earth. Why should free Israelis submit to the will of authoritarian Islamist murderers? If you live in the occupied territories Israel's management will not allow you to earn an honest living and take care of your family in peace, Israel won't allow you to get decent health care and get to a hospital without being detained with long check point delays, Israel won't allow you to enjoy quality imports, Israel won't allow you trade freely with your neighbors, Israel won't allow you to travel more than 5 miles without waiting hours in Israel checkpoints and being intimated and treated poorly, and Israel will take land to build walls, cut down orchards, kill off farm animals, disrupt education, and in many ways work to prevent any kind of structural peace. If I lived in the occupied territories, I would want to kill a few Israels too. After all, being a perfectly law abiding and honest hard working person can get you killed by American funded armor and munitions simply by sitting in living room or walking to the market to get some food.
