Yes, and I see no live preview in the toolbar/sidebar dropdown (on Linux).

Different workflow require different UIs. Imagine to type a character via
alt+numpad. If you need to understand the font coverage before text is written,
the live preview approach is pointless.

KDE allows to disable fonts (I use to do it with 99% of Noto), Windows probably
too. I'm against introducing square wheels.
