            Bug ID: 164588
Summary: Erratic behavior of paragraph marks
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 24.2.7.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
When paragraph marks ¶ are displayed in Writer (ALL VERSIONS up to 24.x.x) the
behavior of Writer turns erratic whenever the ¶ is selected.

Indeed, the ¶ carries its own character-format (Font, Size, etc.), which is
displayed in the toolbar as for any other character.

There is a multifold bug in this respect, taking place when the formatting of
the ¶ DIFFERS from that of the two neighboring characters (which can be ¶ or
any other character)

If nothing is selected, the display of the format info in the toolbar is
erratic, depending upon the displacement history of the insertion point

If a selection exists consisting in a combination of all the left neighbor, the
¶ it self and the right neighbor, the display of the format info in the toolbar
is again erratic, depending upon the combination and/or not reflecting the
display of the ¶ within the text

If a charcacter is inserted to the right or to the left of the ¶, the
formatting of the character is beyond understanding

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a document, display paragraph marks, enter 3 additional paragaphs.
Thus the document displays 4 single ¶.

2. Remark : in this bug description the last ¶ shall be ignored as it behaves
differently from the others in Writer

3. Type letter A on the first line, nothing on the 2nd line, and letter C on
the 3rd line

4. At this stage all characters, including the ¶s, are default-formatted, say
font-size 12pt

5. Select the 2nd ¶, and change font-size to 24pt

6. Displace insertion point to the right (it should find itself on the left of
C) : the toolbar displays 24pt, although were are on a 12pt line [BUG]

7. Displace insertion point to the right once more (it should find itself on
the right of C), type letter D, then backspace to erase letter D, then displace
insertion point to the left : the insertion point finds it-self back on the the
left of C, but the toolbar displays 12pt [BUG]

8. Reselect the 2nd ¶ : the toolbar displays no size [BUG], although the text
display of ¶ is still 24pt [BUG]

9. Reassign size 24pt to the 2nd ¶

10. Copy character A from the 1st line, move insertion point to the 2nd line
(it should find itself on the left of the 2nd ¶) and paste : letter A is pasted
as 12pt, which is correct, but the 2nd ¶ has been modified to 12pt also [BUG]

11. Many other actions can be found displaying erratic behavior

Actual Results:
Erratic display of format info for ¶ characters in the toolbar

Erratic formatting when inserting text (key press or paste) around a ¶

Expected Results:
The display of format info for ¶ characters in the toolbar should be sticky and
consistent, irrespective of the navigation and the insertion/deletion elsewhere
in the text

The insertion of text (key press or paste) around a ¶ should be consistent in
the same way

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The above, long-lasting, multi-fold bug prevents many MS WORD users from
switching to Writer, which is really, really sorry
