--- Comment #4 from V Stuart Foote <[email protected]> ---
DE in context of os/DE is the Desktop Environment and Operating system.

DE for Windows os's are the Desktop Window Manager (DWM) and Windows shell
(Explorer).

The LibreOffice user profile migrates between major release builds, so 24.8 ->
25.2 -> 25.8, but there can be formatting issues as features are
adjusted/added.

Aware of no changes to the AutoCorrection Options (that consume the
acor_<locale>.dat copied into LibreOffice user profile).

I would go ahead and uninstall LO 25.2, then rename your current LO profile (on
Windows normally at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice). Or simply
delete it if you have no saved templates, dictionaries, styles you want to
retain.

There is a "Safe mode" profile (Help -> 'Restart in Safe Mode...') [1] that
will temporarily use LibreOFfice defaults, but then allow you to keep any
existing profile. But building a new clean profile is often the cleanest way to
proceed.
Details and trouble shooting hints about the LibreOffice user profile are
documented [2].

Install LO 25.8, and on first launch your profile will be rebuilt with defaults
in that %APPDATA% directory. Items from old profile can be copied over at that
point.

And then, check if the defaults for the autocorrection of "-->" string into the
U-2192 → glyph are again working with a new document and default paragraph
styles.

If with a clean install of 25.8, and a new user profile you still have an issue
with the autocorrect replacements--report that here. If it is all working with
clean profile, please just resolve this "Works for Me" as there is really
nothing actionable with out a way to reproduce.
