A) I agree that opening at the top of the list, makes it really difficult to get to the position of the selected font; B) I personally find it less obvious having to press a key to get to the top of the list. I personally have tendency to make the 'last used' outside the scrolling area. So kind of section above the font list. With the font drop down keeping the scroll position of the selected font, which also being highlighted as active. The 'only' problem is the technical part.
