--- Comment #7 from Heiko Tietze <[email protected]> ---
We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

The use case is clear and reasonable. However, the recent option was added
intentionally and the workflow is probably more often relevant (we do not have
an agreement on the importance, though).

Possible solutions:

#1: introduce an expert option to switch off the recent on top
#2: life preview at the document on hovering over the items (no need to change
the order; duplicate of bug 37048)
#3: initially focus the second item in the list (the font list contains two
entries, one on top and one at the ordered font items, and browsing through the
list starting from the currently selected font should be solve the use case
while scrolling up to the top is always easy)
#4: filter the font list on typing, for example "schrift" shows all variants of
"Bahnschrift"
#5: add a checkbox to the list items that controls the visibility of recently
used fonts
#6: add an entry "Go to current font" that moves the focus to the second
position

We decided to go with #1 for now. It is the least interrupting change, easy to
implement, and basis for all other options anyway. If more users ask for an
option in the UI to change the option we can introduce one of the ideas later.
