Yes, it is one of many possible real life scenarios. 

For example, I often compare two or three documents (I do this in Writer and
also in Calc) by having them all displayed at once. So I place the windows side
by side and adjust the zoom (using CTRL+ mouse wheel) to an arbitrary value* in
ONE of them, then I go to the other two and change the zoom to exactly the same
value of the first one (which can be 57%, 39%, 77%, etc.)

Note that in this case, the "fit to"/optimal zoom options will not necessarily
solve my problem when I want to focus on specific parts of the document
/spreadsheet.
