You have two option to check the active card:
1) Use GfxCardStatus utility: https://gfx.io
2) Follow this steps:
- Open System Profiler by choosing About this Mac from the Apple () menu, then
click More Info.
- Select the "Graphics/Displays" item in the Hardware section.
- If you have two graphic cards you can see, in the detail section, which one
is running the monitor.
