--- Comment #22 from Alex Thurgood <[email protected]> ---
(In reply to Roy from comment #21)
Hi Roy,
I apologize if I appeared offhand, but it is often very difficult to get to the
finer detail of a given issue when we only have general statements, such as
"with many files" so I hope you understand why I'm pushing for more
information. Thanks for getting back to me though, I appreciate it.

You mention the Desktop folder has 89 items (folders and files). That is
actually quite a lot of files for the Desktop folder (especially if there are
lots of aliases) and is/was known to cause a slowdown of the OS in earlier
versions of MacOSX (I myself experienced this on my previous Macbook).
Are any of the folders symbolic links / aliases to external storage ?
LO has/had a known issue, linked to the way it accesses and populates the
Finder window dialog, with saving/opening from externally mounted storage,
particularly where there are lots of files on the destination folder of the
drive in question.
Furthermore, current versions of LO also have marked performance issues when
attempting to first display, or save to, a folder via the Finder dialog,
notably with macOS Sierra/High Sierra, but it also probably affects Yosemite as
well.
Additionally, there are several known Yosemite and earlier specific bugs that
have not been, and probably will never be, fixed. Given Apple's proclivity to
only maintain a 3-year window for system updates, at some stage in the near
future, Yosemite will also become EOL, thereby reducing the chances that any
LibreOffice volunteer developer with an expertise in OSX problems will want to
look at these problems.
Unless you can upgrade your OS version to Sierra or High Sierra, there probably
isn't much more that can be suggested. None of the volunteer QA members that
participate in the project, to my knowledge, have a setup similar to the one
you describe, so for us that means it is nearly impossible to try and
reproduce. As a result, your issue will in likelihood be consigned to history.
If you could answer me on the alias question - i.e. whether the problem occurs
in particular when saving to an alias which points to an external storage
folder containing hundreds of files, I would be much obliged.
