Viboon -
I've got a Libby 70CT. I can answer your questions, as I've done just about
the same thing:

1. As far as I can tell, 32MB is the largest memory chip that has been made
for the L70. I can't find an upgrade larger than 32MB.

2. The L70 with 32MB of RAM is capable of running Win98SE and Office 2000 -
I've got those loaded on mine, and performance won't break any records, but
it is acceptable.

3. I had difficulties installing Mandrake 7.1 on my L70 (kept on getting
SIG 11 errors - think it was due to 32MB of RAM - the installer is a memory
hog). I "downgraded" to Mandrake 6.1 and it installed flawlessly and runs
like a champ.

Subject: L70 RAM and OS question

Hi All,

I will be obtaining a used Libretto 70 from a friend.
This will be my first notebook computer, so I am
really excited about it. New ones are priced beyond
my reach :(.

Anyway, I have 3 questions:

1. Can the L70 RAM go above 32MB? I know it says in
the spec that 32MB is the maximum. But what is
the restriction here? BIOS? I really want to have
at least 64MB, because of bloated OSs.

2. Is the L70, with 120MHz CPU and 32MB RAM and 1.6GB HD,
capable of running Win98SE and MS Office 97? Anyone
   tried this before?

3. If I were to install Linux instead, do you think
that Mandrake 7.1 would run on it? I have Mandrake 7.0
on my desktop, but I am not sure whether the same
configuration can be used for notebook computers.

Thank you for your input.

Cheers,
Viboon
