Well, as I understand it, RedHat 7.1 is at the center of a large libc controversy, something about problems with backwards compatibility. I've never had the courage to try it. And it's just a matter of personal taste that I don't use 7.0, actually, so your mileage will vary for sure. :) Do try RedHat 7.0 again with an updated version of XFree86. If you encounter errors then, send them on over to the list; perhaps someone else has seen it before. The biggest downside to RedHat 6.1 is that it's pretty outdated at this point. I planned to pare down my Libretto as a streamlined machine for notes, organization, scheduling, and some gaming during boring lectures. ;) I just had to do a lot of tweaking and fudging to get things to work right. I can't vouch for anything like the server version or the professional version; I just performed my installs over the network. Free stuff. So I'm sure RedHat 7.0 will probably be better for you (because it certainly is a hassle to upgrade packages and juggle old software, I must admit). Personally, I'll be installing slackware because it has better options for a real barebones install. -Jason ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robbert J. van Herksen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Libretto" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2001 5:18 PM Subject: RE: Got it1! > Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2001 02:09:07 +0200 > From: "Robbert J. van Herksen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: RE: Got it1! > > Thanks a zillion, Jace!!! > > will try again. > > If I understand correctly, are you saying that RH 7.0 and RH 7.1 are a piece > of shit, and is RH 6.0 much better or what?? > > What's wrong witht the sever version??? > > Cheers > > Robbert > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Jason Kim [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > > Sent: Thursday, September 27, 2001 02:08 > > To: Libretto > > Subject: Re: Got it1! > > > > > > Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2001 16:59:23 -0700 > > From: "Jason Kim" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Subject: Re: Got it1! > > > > Install RedHat, but omit the XFree86 packages.
