I take it you're referring to the alternating dark and light stripes? Have you ever 
opened up the libby? Even if you haven't, try taking the keyboard off and make REALLY 
sure the screen connector (the brown thing on the right) is really tight (you don't 
need to take the screws out of the base, you should be able to get to that connector 
just by flipping the keyboard up but if you've never taken it apart before make real 
sure you don't disturb the keyboard cable). I had a similar thing happen to me on a 
really old laptop (a Compaq LTE Lite/25, black and white) when I nicked the screen 
cable (except that was a simple edge connector and not a proper connector like there 
is on a Libretto). The cable could well have worked loose through age (from what I can 
see its not the most secure of connectors - I can see it working loose just by picking 
the libby up by the corner too many times and slightly flexing the case - but on the 
other hand I guess its about the only way of getting that density of connectors in 
such a small area).
