(what >number is the missing pin please?) Pin 1 is the pin furthest from the power connector ON THE ADAPTER (yes I know, normally its the other way round). Pin 1 on the 2.5" hard drive should be on the same side as the red stripe on the IDE cable. You may need to cut a pin if your IDE cable has a keyed pin.
