OK lemme get this right in my head because now I'm starting to get confused
... heh. A slow lens means you need to use either a slower shutter speed or
a larger aperture. But doesn't a larger aperture mean LESS focusing depth?

Thanks for that ... my friend is actually looking for one for his wife and
has asked me to give him some advice (I've got the Olympus C-200 myself, it
seems to do a good enough job) so usability and 'style' are certainly as
important as image quality. What sorta camera would YOU recommend in the
same price range as these 2 cameras (about the $300-$400USD range)? What
exactly do you (and the review sites) mean by the lens being 'soft'? Would
you really notice it if you never enlarged the photos to more than say A4
sized? I notice plenty of 'blurriness' in some of the shots I take with the
Olympus (most of them being dim light shots) but I put that down to either
an unsteady hand (as it gets fixed if I put the camera down on a hard
surface) or the camera having a hard time focusing (as it gets fixed if I
lock focus first).
