are you sure that Cardbus modems exist? In fact, I have never seen or
even heard about one.

It seems to me that even nowadays the vast majority of PC Cards are
still 16bit. E.g. I just bought brand new WLAN cards, made with the
latest chip set (Intersil PrismIII) that is only available since end of
last year -- they are 16bit. I guess Cardbus is are mostly used for USB,
FireWire, SCSI, and video cards. Even most 100mbit NICs are 16bit.
