The watt hrs/liter value suggests longer life. I have no experience with these, but it looks like you'd have to use a "dummy" cell to get near the proper voltage. One of the major US battery companys sells "lithium" batteries, which are touted as better at low temperatures than alkalines. They worked OK in my GPS, but it is such a low-draw device that comparisons of battery life weren't practical. It's too bad that the example Sony set with the PRD-650 CDROM wasn't followed by others. It uses a Li-Ion cell (proprietary, of course), which recharges in the unit when hooked up to an AC adapter (or, the CDROM will run straight off the adapter). Optionally, a snap-on adapter allows use of AA batts. Pretty slick.
