First, list member David Chein has a GREAT web site at www.silverace.com/libretto where he hosts a downloadable copy (and correct version) of EZDRIVE 9.09W which contains EZBIOS 9.06. This has worked perfectly on my 20GB Travelstar. With respect to the hibernation area (not Windows swap file, as you correctly guessed), concensus and testing has established its location at the area bounded by cylinders 1010-1040. If you use Partition Magic (IMHO a can't-live-without-it tool), you can, by trial and error and using the Partition Info menu selection, cordon this area off with no slop or doubt. If you're worried and/or don't have PM, you could leave a largish (500MB?) chunk either unallocated or partitioned off around the 8GB area. Check www.fixup.net, I think there is some info there on setting the hibernation partition using MB boundaries rather than cylinders. Your partition plan is fine, but you may split the 0-8GB area up if you'd like. Lots of folks have dual-boot (me too soon) setups with Linux or W2K, with a couple of partitions in front of the hibernation space. When you download and run EZDRIVE, it'll make a boot floppy that will handle partitioning (which you can alter later with Partition Magic), and formatting, and will install EZBIOS. Once you've FDISKed and FORMATted the HDD in the Libretto, it may be easiest to remove the HDD and set it up in a desktop PC so you can copy Windows (or whatever) to the HD. With only one PCMCIA slot it is difficult/impossible to install software from a CD drive before you have an operating system installed. Don't worry, the people on this list will give you all the help you need, they did for me. Good luck.
