The lastest 4.71 ASPI drivers from www.roxio.com should do the trick.

It has a command line interface now, so you must type
"install x86" to have it install. Does not need to have a SCSI card from Roxio
anymore unlike prior versions, and it works fine for my work computer, too.

Went to the Roxio website and searched for '4.71 ASPI', but didn't find anything. Neither did searching the www.roxio.com domain using Google's advanced search.

I did find 4.71 ASPI updates at Adaptecs website, along with 2 other ASPI updates for Win9x. Each of them contain and executable, ASPIINST.EXE, that installs the drivers.

But there seems to be conflicting information on just which ASPI files are required to have them work properly in Win9x. I downloaded 3 different updates:

aspi_v470.exe
aspi_v471.exe
aspi_471a2.exe

The first has a .doc information file, and a .doc programming info. The other two have .pdf files for both. The installation info has a table that shows 2 files necessary for Win98 to operate:

APIX.VCD
WNASPI32.DLL

However in the programming files, the error section at the end states:

-----------------------------------
SS_MISMATCHED_COMPONENTS 0xE7

ASPI for Win32 consists of three components under Windows 98: WNASPI32.DLL, APIX.VXD, and ASPIENUM.VXD.

It consists of two components under Windows NT: WNASPI32.DLL, ASPI32.SYS.

Each of these components has a version number, and all the version numbers on a particular platform must agree for ASPI to function. This error will only occur if the installation has been corrupted, and components with different version numbers have been installed on the system. The only fix for this is to remove all of the ASPI components for that operating system, and then reinstall a full, consistent set of ASPI drivers.
-----------------------------------

Each of the ASPI update files above comes with a utility, aspichk.exe, that checks to see if the drivers are the correct ones. However they all only check for 2 files, APIX.VCD WNASPI32.DLL, and not ASPIENUM.VXD

Also, the text where the utility reports, ASPI is properly installed is grayed out. This, as if it may not be finding all of the required files for matching versions.

The website with the process for installing EAC (Exact Audio Copy) http://www.ping.be/satcp/cd2mp3-en.htm#contents had pointed me to ASPI files at http://www.ping.be/satcp/softwaretools01.htm#ASPI that installed v4.60 drivers. And the check utility there was a Win95 based executable that found 4 required files, one being the missing ASPIENUM.VXD.

So I ended up running aspi_v470.exe which contrary to its file name, set up the 4.60 versions of the APIX.VCD and WNASPI32.DLL ASPI files. Those match the 4.60 version of ASPIENUM.VXD that I have on my system.

Im only guessing that this is probably the best combination of files.

Matt
