This is the single biggest improvement you can make, speed-wise... Hard disks up to at least 20MB are possible - but there are bios implications which means you need to take care in formatting the disk. Lots of info in the archive. CD roms can be used - though none of them as far as I know (the original Tosh drive may be an exception) will allow you to boot from them. It's possible that you can get the battery to charge if you leave the machine turned on while connected to the mains for a couple of days. (Note that the main battery doesn't charge when machine is turned on, but only when the machine is off - but the bios battery only charges when turned on!) If you come across e.g. a ct70 with a broken screen, you can transfer the guts into the 50 with the advantages of a faster processor and charging the battery while running. Enjoy the machine.
