You should have no other problems getting your 50CT to run the 32MB RAM upgrade and and a 6GB (I assume you ment GB not MB) hard drive. There have been recent posts on the best way to set up a new Windows OS.
The new CMOS battery should fix the date problem. Not having seen the ESC> F1 > Windows problem before, I can only guess that the battery ought to fix that problem too.
Anyone have a URL to a copy of the 50CT manual PDF so Marcus can see what's involved in replacing the RTC (CMOS) battery?

You can expand the RAM to 32M - expansion modules (8M or 16M) pop up on Ebay
and here from time to time. This is the single biggest improvement you can
make, speed-wise...
Hard disks up to at least 20MB are possible - but there are bios implications which means you need to take care in formatting the disk. Lots of info in the archive.
CD roms can be used - though none of them as far as I know (the original
Tosh
drive may be an exception) will allow you to boot from them. You can do
little without either the pcmcia floppy drive or another machine into which
you can insert a new hard disk, so you should probably look for a floppy
drive.

You probably need a new bios battery. www.micsol.com or other places in the
archives. It's possible that you can get the battery to charge if you leave
the machine turned on while connected to the mains for a couple of days.
(Note that the main battery doesn't charge when machine is turned on, but
only when the machine is off - but the bios battery only charges when turned
on!)
If you come across e.g. a ct70 with a broken screen, you can transfer the guts into the 50 with the advantages of a faster processor and charging the battery while running.
Enjoy the machine.
