Subject: Reinstall OS for L50?

After much lurking I now have an L50 with 32Mb memory and 810Mb HD. It came
with Win98 (1st ed) and dblspace loaded. One of my programs runs in real
DOS only, and restarts the computer in real DOS. However, because of
dblspace I do not have enough available memory to run the DOS program. I
have to get rid of dblspace.

It seems that I need to reformat the HD and re-install an OS (WIN98 2nd ed)
to get rid of dblspace and free up memory for real DOS programs. I have a
backpack CD that runs off the parallel port, a CD that runs off PCMCIA, and
the Toshiba PCMCIA floppy drive. I might need an IDE converter as well.

Do you know of a link that describes reformatting and install of an Win98
for the L50?

After reading what I could find, I still have some questions about
installing the Toshiba drivers and about hibernation. If I install Win98
2nd ed from the Backpack parallel port CD to the L50 will I then have
trouble installing the toshiba drivers? Is it best to use an IDE converter
and install the new OS with the HD in another machine?

The hibernation "feature" seems like a problem to me. I'd rather not have
it. Can I just shut it off some how? If not, do I have to do something
special to get it to work -- like setting up a partition for it?

Thanks in Advance,
Larry
