"Sort of bounding box" is rather vague. The setting of the extents to (0 .
0) only makes sense when the regions indicated by skyline and extents are
combined with "and", whereas extents used for trying to make something
larger will only work when the combination of the regions is done
using "or".
So I doubt we'll manage to find a reasonable "sort of" behavior that will
not simply _drop_ the skyline information (rather than try to combine it)
where an extent is explicitly specified.
