I confirm that i get similar results as in comment #36.
However, at higher zoom levels, the change is different: new stems look

I'm not sure if i like it - stems should appear thicker than stafflines,
and with patchset4 they appear the same or sometimes slightly thinner.
Also, the problem with disappearing stems in poppler (mentioned earlier)
remains.
There's one thing that puzzles me: Finale pdfs seem to display quite fine.
Not perfect, but generally better than ours. How do they do it? Maybe
reverse-engineering a finale-made pdf would help? See one here:
