There is no "even better". We've been through that already. Of course, the rounding of stems is discernible in print, and the PDF was not intended to be "preview-only".

Cutting down on the file size would be possible if stems passed the information "never mind the rounding on the bottom end, it disappears in the notehead anyway" or "never mind the rounding on the bottom end, it's masked by a beam".

I mean, beamed notes make up a fair amount of notes, and usually both ends of the stems are hidden.

Of course, with beamed notes we really _also_ want the special case "this note stem starts/ends a beam of slope x" since then we can draw the beams just into half the stem's width and get rid of the rasterizing mismatch of a full beam with a strokeadjust-thinned stem.

Rasterizing is a nightmare.
