I've used the Broadband TreeView Xtra extensively, and it's a pretty powerful tool. You can add and delete nodes in runtime, expand and collapse nodes, call handlers on mouse actions, and a whole lot of other stuff.
You could use standard drag-and-drop logic to add or delete things from the tree. The tree wouldn't do it automatically, but the logic would be pretty straightforward.
I'll echo the comment about power. It is indeed powerful. But I'd have to argue the part about "straightforward." It is a pretty awesome tool, but it is also a bit quirky, and has some decidedly non-lingo (styled) approaches to how the tree is worked with and managed.
It will likely do everything you need, but be prepared for a bit of a learning curve in terms of getting it to do exactly what you want – only in that some of its approaches just work a bit differently than Director stuff usually does. Once past that, it can be a lot of fun to work with.
