We bought a mac so I could test this. And I found out that OS X is case sensitive with filenames.
The initial path structure worked, <dvdname>:folder:file only gotta have the right case.

Lucky that the paths aren't burned on the dvd but downloaded from the web, a bit of manual search and replace. Or is there some function to make the OS X ignore case in files?

My guess is that the path to the dvd in OS X isn't "<dvdname>:folder:file" as it is in OS 9.

Give this a try:
/Volumes/<dvdname>/folder/file
