After hilighting some text, the shortcut (or Edit menu item) will jump the hilight to the next place that string occurs.
Of course, it's not limited to just finding variable names.
Another useful shortcut is to Option/Alt click on a handler call (even if it's in the message window). The movie script will open up at that handler.
