It's even easier if you create a new, blank movie and save it. Then open 
your other movie, copy stuff, and open the blank movie from the file -> 
recent movies, as Buzz mentioned. Opening a new movie closes the old one, 
and you can paste the stuff in.

As has been pointed out, by me and 2 others, it is sometimes easier to 
"Save As" and delete the unwanted parts.
