He probably just ignored the distribution requirements. MACR will not
lightly waive the logo requirements.

A parable. Once upon a time there was a company so scrupulously honest they
not only displayed the MWM logo, they went the extra mile to capture
escape, and even alt-F4 and Cmd-Q, and sent the user to the logo screen.

However, certain activities were heavy Flash sprite users. The Flash Asset
Xtra would see the Alt-F4 and deposit the user directly to the desktop--the
Director key handler object never even saw the command, even though the
Flash sprites were marked "pass events always."

Being good citizens, this company contacted Macromedia to ensure this
wouldn't violate the license agreement. Macromedia has been most gracious,
with program and product managers such as Saint Grace busting their buns to
get special dispensation.

The Earth, though, was suffering from a plague called "lawyers," who huff
and puff and turn red in the face at the mention of the word "double
bogey." After careful review (and probably not a few guffaws), they allowed
that maybe, since it was a bug in Macromedia code that was preventing this
paragon of a company from displaying the MWM logo, just maybe, they might
grant a dispensation. However, the company in question must state their
case in writing directly to the lawyers.

The moral of the story--Macromedia are very reluctant to give
exceptions--and, to be honest, I don't blame them. I heard someplace that
somebody like Disney worked out a special deal with Macr, but not many of
us have Disney's clout (or money). Anyway, that's just a rumor.

On the other hand, does anybody know of anyone who has been sued for not
displaying the logo?

Cordially,

Kerry Thompson
