>No, it's just a handler--a callback, programmers say.
I am confused. TimeOut objects apparently do not entail parent-child
scripts.
>It's a bit simpler in a movie script because that's the default. If you

Sorry, but how do I tell Director where it is?
I put the following in a movie script. (On the top of the script window it
says Movie Script 4):
timeOut("bideAWee").new(8000, #goNext)
on goNext
go to "nextPage"
timeOut("bideAWee").forget()
end
The debugger window appeared with the message:
Script error: Handler definition expected
timeOut?
So I inserted the line
On EnterFrame
right at the top of the script.
On playing the movie, another error message appeared:
Script error: Frame not defined
go to "NextPage"
so I inserted a marker known as NextPage.
Actually, should I place it in my movie script? I note that there are five
places I need to pause before "The End" comes out and the movie stops
playing.
Do I need to keep on calling all the frames? How does Director know which
place I am referring to?
I then used on beginSprite me instead of on EnterFrame but there was no
'timeOut'. What happened?
Again, look at the examples in the
>Lingo
>Dictionary under "New."
I think this is the only example copied from the Lingo Dictionary:
Example This statement creates a new timout object called intervalTimer that
will send a timeout event to the on minuteBeep handler in the child object
playerOne every 60 seconds:
timeout("intervalTimer").new(60000, #minuteBeep, playerOne)
The other examples do not seem to be related. What are you trying to tell
me?
Im sorry that I ask so many questions. Im still trying to figure out where
I have gone wrong.
>When you're 64 (octal), you've earned the right to be a curmudgeon.
No, I don't think you are one - in fact, just the exact opposite - witty,
urbane and really kind.
Thanks very much
Genevieve
