Hello Joe,

Unsopported audio sampling rates under Windows are resampled to the
nearest supported rate on the fly, distorting the pitch in some cases.
Macintosh supports just about any sampling rate, including 11.126,22.253
& 22.254 Mhz.

Supported sampling rates in windows: 11.025,22.050, and 44.100 Mhz

>From Director in a Nutshell p.487

Not all sound cards in windows can resample unsupported rates
accurately.

I should have mentioned that I am not publishing this to shockwave.
*sorry*
It's going to be an autorun CD.

Yes, I am saying that they played poorly in authoring, and I am 100%
positive that I was listening to the resampled files in SoundForge. I am
using wav files, but I have used them before without this trouble. The
quality is far worse than what is normally expect from 8/11Hz.

Are you saying that they played poorly in authoring, or just in
shockwave? Were you definitely listening to the resampled files when
you were in SoundForge?

I think you're doing it wrong anyway. You should keep the sounds full
quality in Director, and then when you publish the sounds are changed
to shockwave audio. You can set the quality in the publishing
settings, based on the date rate you want them to take. The sounds
remain 16 bit, but can take up less space than your 8 bit 11 KHz ones
do, if you set the data rate to 32 kilobit/second.
