Steve,

Did you enter in something like this?

0xf030,0xf031,0xf032,portname:OSAPORT1,eth0

My suse appears to get the rest of the cuaddr combinations
of 0xf033,0xf034....etc as well. However my eth0 does
communicate with no problem.

I have my OSA shared with a MVS LPAR running the OSA/SF
Support facility that I can view the status of even the
OSA connections to my SUSE LPAR from. The GUI provides
a lot of info that you will need.

Gerald

hello mark,

do you mean the portname defined in vtam for the OSA-E.

i am installing SUSE server 7 (kernel 2.4) and using the 'boot from cd'
option. from the first menu i select '3' for the gigabit OSA. later, i
enter in the device's or auto(i've done both) and then enter in a port
name. i have enter'd a portname, however the vtam on the CEC in question
did not have one defined, and still got the error.

also, i was refered to a marist listserv entry from carlos ordonez on
01/31/2002. this item implies a bug in the SUSE install. i attempted it
with no success

regards, steve

Steve,

Don't keep looking, your problem is that you _must_ specify a portname.
That has been true for every person that has reported running into that
particular error message. It's never been clear if Linux/390 can _set_
that
portname (maybe you and your IBM rep can figure that out), but it is _very_
clear that it must match the portname. If Linux/390 can't set it, use one
of your other operating systems to do so, and then update your Linux/390
parameters to match. Make sure you specify the portname in all upper case.

hello gerald,

 thanks for your reply.

yes, the OSA will be shared, but the linux lpar is the only one using it
at this time. on this CEC we do not have a portname defined in vtam at this
time.

still looking

  steve

Steve,

Is this OSA/SF shared with other MVS LPARS? If it is you have
to use the same portname you used in your TRLE definitions.

Good luck....
