Hi Dave,

Since you are considering DFDSS I assume you have the 2.4 kernel with CDL
support? In that case I would use OS/390 RACF to protect the volumes,
whether they are online or not. RACF DASDVOL can protect them from ICKDSF
when they are offline and from DFDSS etc when they are online. Then you
should also protect the datasets (Linux partitions) with normal dataset
rules. If you don't have RACF, I assume ACF2, TOP SECRET etc have similar
functions.

>From a security viewpoint, OFFLINDR is probably an exposure in that the
above controls will not work. But you could protect the OFFLINDR program
and the library it resides in.

I'm assuming I can't use HCD to isolate these disks to the
VM and/or Linux LPARs....since I want to use either DFDSS or OFFLINDR
to back them up.

These volumes are OFFLINE to OS/390 most of the time and could be
mistakenly selected as new empty disk packs by fellow sysprogs....

Besides good doc...is there a way to protect these disks?

Dave
