You can use HCD to isolate devices to an LPAR using the PARTITION parm but of course this is only good at the LPAR level. What goes on inside between VM guests is another matter (that can be handled). Nevertheless I would think there are still some risks with leaving the DASD online to an OS/390 system too. For example, while DFDSS can be used to back up the volume, that is, read from it, it could just as easily copy over the top of it, that is, write to it. I don't think there is any completely fail safe method to protect them from OS/390 unless you start using a combination of RACF DASDVOL profiles and possibly DADSM exits to effectively make the volumes "read only". I think loud threats could be as effective and less trouble ;-)
