When I was researching this problem, shortly after discovering that my new
ISP hadn't had its second IP address chunk delegated properly from its
upstream, I found it in a best practices RFC, but I was unable to find it
again when I went looking.

I've always understood that having an IP address that didn't have *some* PTR
record defined for it was a bug, but I can't cite an authority for it now.

I've turned the feature off, and will probably leave it off...dammit. I
still believe that every IP address in use should have a PTR record, and
that I'll kill more spam than good messages with it, but there are
apparently enough folks out there who don't agree with me that insisting on
it is moderately useless.
