Tedious (but how can something out of the VM BARs be bad ;-) As a plumber I would rather exploit trackread and trackwrite. It's not without reason these stages appeared in CMS Pipelines. They handle whatever is on the 3390 tracks. The CMS Pipelines stage avoids the temporary copy, but allows a small CMS application to feed the tracks via a network connection. Some day when time permits and I have learned to program, I want to do a Linux device driver that reads and writes my tracks as if it were a tape, using that same format that trackwrite produces. The restore would probably take a sparse file so that I can do track-based incremental backup. Rob
