Hmm. Rob makes a good point; our CMS Amanda client currently handles only CMS file backup, not disk images, so it would not be able to do a full standalone restore of a VM system if that's what you meant by LPAR mode.
I wonder how hard it would be to do a Linux version of CMSDDR. If that existed, then teaching Amanda to use it would not be too difficult, and most of the rest of the Amanda code could be used as-is. If you limited the scope to a "DR" VM system, you might be able to fake Amanda into a level 0 that would do the trick....*mutter*....hm.. I'll play with it. -- db David Boyes Sine Nomine Associates > -----Original Message----- > From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On > Behalf Of Rob > van der Heij > Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 2:00 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: Backing up VM with linux facilities > > > At 17:45 14-01-03, Dennis Wicks wrote: > > >So, has anyone considered this? > > Oh, and when you have sorted this out and planned, remind me > to ask a question to the list about "Restoring VM with only > Linux facilities" ;-) > > You would need a process where you can start one of your > Linux guest native in the LPAR (from the CD maybe) and use > that to restore your VM volumes.
