thanks, it looks good so far. I'll try a test IPL tomorrow, just for the learning
experience.
It won't work, because the ESCON is not defined to the LPAR till we can schedule a POR.

Bill,

Since you're not using VM, yes, use the "tape" images. Note that this means
the parmfile must be _one_ record long, with a max length of 1020 (??)
bytes.

RedHat provide 2 sets of images, one for tape, one for DASD...
07/29/2002 02:57p 4,779,688 initrd.img
07/29/2002 01:28p 2,639,360 kernel.img

07/29/2002 02:59p 4,713,676 tapeinrd.img
07/29/2002 01:32p 2,631,168 tapekrnl.img

I just want to confirm that the tape images are the ones I want to use...

Change the names to match what ever you called the files. The parmfile can
be in ASCII or EBCDIC. (At least that _used_ to be true.)

This is most excellent!

I am installing Redhat, and the image files are different..
Should I replace
SYS1.LINUX.TAPEIPL.IKR and SYS1.LINUX.INITRD
with tapeinrd.img & tapekrnl.img?

And will the boot process be expecting to read the parmfile in ASCII?

Thanks
