When I use tape directly from Linux (Suse), I attach/detach the tape drives. (Of course, running under z/VM) I don't seem to have any of the problems being discusses. I do recall something about z/OS and LPARs being able to dynamically use tape drives and, perhaps, this is the kind of use that this type of problem surfaces with. So, does this problem affect VM types that attach/detach? Perhaps I've been kidding my self that my Linux tape usage hasn't been causing problems. Perhaps Dynam/T has been correcting these problems. Perhaps Operations been correcting these problems and not telling me (yea....right..that will be the day). Tom Duerbusch THD Consulting
