> What? Oh, ah, being the Microsoft Yes Men. At the time that was the correct thing to do. These days, when I hear about a new report for that group, I have to ask about its credibility.
I know a few Gartner analysts quite well - we meet up regularly at vendor events. Although Gartner lists "1,000 analysts" I always seem to meet the same two or three. And they're FAR from full-time analysts - they bitch incessantly about having to sell Gartner services. They have very difficult sales goals - if they go to visit a client, they're supposed to sell something. The less they sell, the more they have to dedicate time to it and the less thought goes into the analysis. They also have to write n thousand words a month, even if there's nothing happening. I operate the other way round - clients tell me their interests and if nothing happens they get nothing to read. If something happens, I work 48 hours through a weekend to give them an analysis by Monday. -- Phil Payne http://www.isham-research.com +44 7785 302 803 +49 173 6242039
