IBM is a _global_ company. Before the EU came into existence, IBM distributed its
manufacturing around Europe. The /168 in the, the /158 in France, DASD in Germany,
etc.

This allowed it to claim that it was a "local company" in each country, and it even
won the
"Queen's Award for Exports" in the UK despite importing more than it exported.

When the EU got going - and the Iron Curtain came down - this became pointless. Disk
manufacture was relocated to Yugoslavia, etc.

I don't know what IBM actually manufactures in the EU thses days. Not very much
compared with
the old days, certainly.
