I don't know much about PC I/O schemes, so I can only speculate that they
chose an I/O model that allows VMWare to intercept all requests, data
transfers, and interrupts.  Any I/O solution that gave one virtual machine
the ability to intentionally, accidentally or maliciously cause the I/O
subsystem to read or write data from or to another virtual machine would
be a Bad Thing.
