1) To "stick it to the man!" 2) An employee of a company that bought it could redistribute it - and not be liable for any infringements or anything else in the process. The vendor couldn't even do soemthing like terminate your support contract for doing so. The employee would even have a case for a wrongful termination action if he were to be fired by the company that had spent money. RMS has said that he sees no reason for any programmer to live any better than he does. IOW, he sees nothing wrong with dragging us all down to his Spartan lifestyle. Personally, I refuse to allow him to tell me how to live.
