Maybe you've misunderstood me: I don't want to replace TN3270. I'd like a secure way to provide the services that I currently use the REXECD service machine for. Likewise, the ability to connect from a CMS logon to a Linux machine using the same method I use to go Linux-to-Linux.
Right. And also the issue of encryption on ssh data transfer is not prime goal, it's about authentication through cryptic keys rather than userid and password. I don't see a proper place in z/VM where this would fit, except for CMS Pipelines. What I would love to see is an 'ssh' stage for CMS Pipelines. When used as client you'd provide it with a private key and it will connect to sshd on the other side. You'd need a central sshd server on the VM system (using that same ssh stage) to connect to the target user (and autolog it when necessary) like we do with APPC.
One of my colleages did some work to have a CMS client connect to a server that is SCIF for all our Linux guests. The look and feel is close to being logged on to the virtual machine itself (enough to fool me now and then). But it's a linemode interface still, and only good enough for the basic things.
