I would be interested in hearing what everyone has to think about adding
this, and Fedora, to the list of distributions available on the linuxvm.org
web site. (I'm specifically thinking about the part along the left side of
each page.)

Subject: [FWD] new distribution(Tao Linux) for s390

-------- Original Message --------
New Port: Tao Linux s390, by Pasi Pirhonen
Submitted by parsley on Thu, 03/04/2004 - 15:47.

Pasi has gone and done it again, and brought the number of platforms Tao
runs on to THREE - and surely, Tao must be one of the few free Linux distros
ported to a mainframe. ;-) From the announcement:

Hi,

I just finnished uploading the 'i need one, so you get it as side product'
release. Don't get me wrong. I am kinda tight committed to this project, but
the Tao/s390 came as i needed it and the 'base work' had been done, so i
don't have get a graphical design and all the other boring stuff done - it's
kinda community power :)

There is NOT:

a) any install documentation (i don't need one)
b) any support for 'how to install' - it's as is.

There will BE:

a) updates as SRPMS gets released
b) support for updates (maybe even enhancements)

There IS:

a) I've test installed this with ftp and nfs installs. With and w/o X.

If for some reason i'd be not able to provide updates for 'maintaned by me
archs', there will be some kind of aanouncement and maybe even replacement
maintainer. My key expires in less than year anyway, so later on i have to
post another armor anyway signed with current key. If i'd be retiring, there
would be new keys signed by me or something that verifies the change.

Don't get me wrong. I am not so bad as i sound just now, but i am not the
guy writing the documentation (i have to do that too much on the work anyway
:).

If you need documentation for Tao/s390, you should use it for sumplementing
'the real thing' and buy the support from redhat.

FYI: There will be sooner or later s390x. I don't have curently access for
'the BIG iron', but have hercules running and have started slowly the build
for s390x.

There will be ia64 sooner.....

The place is the usual.
