Obscure isn't bad. For all the airplay that RH and SuSE get around
here, one might conclude that Debian, Turbolinux and Marist are fringe
systems.
I remember the first time I perused the list of distributions maintained
at LWN -- a hundred links or so. I was awestruck by the choices
available to me. How to select just one?
(Well do the research, of course! Same as you do when you pick an
auto.)
I don't think that the website should exclude a distribution simply
because it is too new to have established a reputation.
But it might be a good idea to post a survey of linux-390 readers,
something *simple*:
- Which distro/release are you running?
- Production or test?
- # of LPARs / virtual machines / IFLs
You don't have to post reviews or subjective evaluations of any
distribution. The numbers will pretty much speak for themselves; people
vote with their feet. Newbies who don't want to do the research can go
with the crowd if they choose, and probably won't go wrong.
