Understand that when SLES9 comes out this year, you will most probably be eligible to upgrade at no additional cost to you. SLES9 will be based on a 2.6 kernel which will have all the NPTL stuff built in (rather than bolted on the side), and so you should see the same performance gains as with RHEL3.
