Perhaps the right combination of special priviledge class and the hcp
module would help.

A heartbeat-stonith.rpm comes with SLES 8. Never tried it and I would
guess it can't do a FORCE, but here's the info:

Summary : Provides an interface to Shoot The Other Node In The Head
Description :
The STONITH module (a.k.a. STOMITH) provides an extensible interface
for remotely powering down a node in the cluster. The idea is quite
simple:
When the software running on one machine wants to make sure another
machine in the cluster is not using a resource, pull the plug on the
other
machine. It's simple and reliable, albeit admittedly brutal.

As Alan mentioned, VIPA won't accomplish this. But, there are Open

packages that will allow you to set up a High Availability (HA)
cluster

your Linux/390 guests. Tivoli Systems Automation will certainly do

job,

but at a much, much higher cost.

Do the open source solutions deal with STOMITH? SAfLi will perform
FORCE or will use LPAR management APIs to kill off the offending
machine.
