I disagree. There are enough shops still running older releases that will never have SCSI support that argue that ECKD is still necessary for a goodly period. Also, z/OS SCSI support isn't scheduled until a future (unspecified) release of z/OS -- and we don't know how long that will take. Not a good prospect. Also, what about DR and/or "past" system recovery capabilities for auditing purposes? That clock is still running on a lot of systems that will be around for a while, and keeping a few real ECKD disks around just for that purpose is not a going proposition (cf how quickly people have decomissioned real 3390 subsystems...).
