The samba rpm's came from portal.suse.com under the CORE 9 for zseries. I
they were all labelled 390x.

The command "net ads join" was issued from the linux server. I need it to
be a member server in an AD 2003 domain.

It all worked before I updated samba -- sort of. There were some known bugs
that the latest and greatest RPMs were supposed to fix.

Now I'm really fixed. smbd crashes on startup.

If I can't get it working this evening I'll be desperately calling someone
in the morning.
